Although many counties are seeing the same new species of bird, appropriately named the mosquito, we all must be diligent about mitigating contraction of the west nile virus.

There are many ways to reduce the mosquito population around your own home but you cannot control your becoming dinner to these guys that are starving elsewhere you go.

Choose an over the counter protection with as few harmful toxic chemicals as possible or make up your own non-toxic concoction.  Many prefer Neem oil and I could name at least a dozen cultural options but will get right to what has worked for me for years.

Something I learned over a decade ago when living without screens in the West Indies.

  • inexpensive unscented lotion
  • if bottle is 8oz, use 7 drops each of cinnamon oil and clove oil.  If larger or smaller, adjust accordingly, you may increase clove oil by 3 drops but know the scent will strengthen as well.
  • Shake vigorously before each application.
  • These natural oils may burn your skin; test for sensitivity prior to applying to body and I found it safe for cheeks and neck as well

WARNING:  pure oils may burn your skin with direct contact, please mix as above before testing.

Remain vigilant and protect yourselves, your elders and your children.  BIC… CSea

Giving Your Best or don’t give at all

Ask for help; it is ok

It is OK to ask for help

It’s the hand we clasp with an honest grasp

That gives a hearty thrill;

It’s the good we pour into others’ lives

That comes back our own to fill.

It’s the dregs we drain from another’s cup

That makes our own seem sweet;

And the hours we give to another’s need

That makes our life complete.

It’s the burdens we help another bear

That makes our own seem light.

It’s the anger seen for another’s feet

That shows us the path to right.

It’s the good we do each passing day ,

With a heart sincere and true ;

In giving the world your best

Its best will return to you.

”If we knew the true power of belief and positive thinking, we would never have a negative thought.”  Susan Santucci

Count your blessings at the end of every day – don’t focus on the problems you’ve faced that day; rather, think of all the good things that happened and the happiness they gave you.

Think of others rather than yourself – when you do things, even the smallest favors, for other people who mean something to you, you feel good about yourself.

Be proactive rather than reactive – instead of fretting over a problem and letting it stress you out, focus on how to resolve quickly and effectively. When your mind is busy trying to find a solution, you stop feeling sorry for yourself and start thinking positively.

Don’t allow your mind to remain idle – it may be clichéd, but it’s also true that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. So stay busy and keep doing something or the other to prevent negative thoughts from creeping in.

Get an hour of exercise every day – even a brisk walk in the morning or evening will do your mental health a world of good.

Allow yourself some “me” time
– set aside some time every day or every few days for yourself when you get to choose what you want to do; read a book, listen to music, catch up with friends, or just laze around. When your soul is nourished, you find that positive energy flows.

Stop negative thoughts before they form completely – if you find yourself becoming depressed because your mind is taking a negative bent, stop those thoughts in their tracks and start consciously thinking of positive things.

Spend time with people who love you and make you feel good about yourself – quality relationships make life worth living.

Anytime you feel that the weight of your burden is hard to bear, talk to a friend or someone with a sympathetic ear – even if they cannot do anything to help you out, just the fact that you have someone on your side is uplifting enough.

And finally, look around you before you start to feel sorry for yourself – there are people in situations that are a hundred times worse than yours, yet they manage to get through each day.

Tell yourself that you have a good life, count your blessings, and learn to stay positive no matter what.

”All that we do outwardly is but the expression and completion of our inward thought. To work effectively, we must think clearly; to act nobly, we must think nobly.”  ~ William Ellery Channing

Forgive, release negativity

All About Soul

You will suffer far more than the individual that hurt you… CSea

When I feel betrayed by someone, instead of sulking, clinging to my resentment and playing the role of victim, I am challenged to strengthen my soul through forgiveness.

By forgiving the person who hurt me, I strengthen my soul. . . . each time we are called upon to forgive, we nourish our souls and learn more about who we are and what we have to share in this world.

This is also an example of unconditional love.

World Candle Lighting Day – December 13

With great respect and admiration for Heidi, I found this in my inbox this morning and just have to share.  Please read through the article to feel Heidi’s passion and purpose.

Today is World Candle Lighting Day

Posted: 12 Dec 2010 07:17 PM PST

When I was doing some research to find out what types of activities, events and holidays occurred today for my Quirky Marketing Calendar blog, I discovered World Candle Lighting Day and time stood still for a moment.

You see, World Candle Lighting Day is about honoring and remembering children who have died at any age from any cause. For those of you who know me, you may have heard that in 2007 I lost Alexis Lee Richards (27) to a drug oversdose. She was my middle daughter. She is survived by Jennifer and Suzannah and never a day goes by that I don’t think of her, sometimes with great sadness and other times with joy as I remember how much life Alexis packed into her 27 years on earth.

My granddaughter, who is only 6 years old, reminds us we have our very own special angel watching over us each and every day.

So I thought it only fitting to share with the readers of WE Magazine for Women for those of you who have lost a child or know someone who has lost a child to anything.  May you remember them with peace and joy and love in your heart. I am sure your special angels are watching over you and those you love too.

About the Worldwide Candle Lighting:  The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting unites family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor and remember children who have died at any age from any cause. As candles are lit at 7 p.m. local time, creating a virtual wave of light, hundreds of thousands of persons commemorate and honor the memory of children in a way that transcends all ethnic, cultural, religious, and political boundaries.

Compassionate Friends website offers several resources to help grieving families including: Online support: grief support for siblings, grandparents, and families; the Open to Hope Talk Show and much more.

And finally, here is a poem I share every year on Alexis birthday to celebrate her life:

You Mean the World … to ME!

There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.

At least 15 people in this world love you in some way. Make that 16!

The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.

A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don’t like you.

Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep. One of them is me

You mean the world to someone. ME!

Never forget that you are special and unique.

Someone that you don’t even know exists loves you.

When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.

When you think the world has turned its back on you take another look.

Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.

Your family are like the stars.  You don’t always see them, but you know they are always there. Whenever you need me, look up and I’ll be there.

“Whenever God Closes One Door He Always Opens Another, Even Though

Sometimes It’s Hell in the Hallway”

Let this be your mantra today and always: “I would rather have one rose and a kind word from someone I love while I’m here than a whole truck load when I’m gone.

Or Ice Cream and Steak!”

And always remember…. when life hands you Lemons, ask for Tequila and Salt!

I love you …..

The Seven Spiritual Laws by Deepak Chopra

Deepak Chopra in November 2006, speaking at Yahoo.

Real spiritual growth changes a person in a paradoxical way, bringing both understanding and preserving innocence. Deeper than love, the one thing you can’t do without is innocence. Innocence is the source of love. It is openness.

The Seven Spiritual Laws :

1.       Everything is possible. We all have the gift of creating absolutely anything. There’s no limit to what we can do or be.

2.       If you want to get something, give it. Always give with a happy heart. The greatest gift is feeling good.

3.       When you make a choice, you change the future (karma). Your choices bring about changes. To make good choices, follow your heart. How do your choices make you feel?

4.       Don’t say no—go with the flow. Create peace within by learning acceptance of what is outside our control.

5.       Every time you wish or want, you plant a seed. Making your wish is like planting a seed and believing that it will grow. Let nature do the rest.

6.       Be open to life and enjoy the journey. New ways and new ideas can lead to more happiness.

7.       You are here for a reason. Your dharma is your purpose, path, or vision, the unique talent that you are here on Earth to share. Your dharma is your happiness.

Stronger Evidence Pollution Damages Heart: Report

Date: 12-May-10
Country: US

The evidence is stronger than ever that pollution from industry, traffic and power generation causes strokes and heart attacks, and people should avoid breathing in smog, the American Heart Association said on Monday.

Fine particulate matter from burning fossil fuels such as gasoline, coal and oil is the clearest offender, the group said.

“Particulate matter appears to directly increase risk by triggering events in susceptible individuals within hours to days of an increased level of exposure, even among those who otherwise may have been healthy for years,” said Dr. Robert Brook of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, who headed the group writing the report.

A review of six year’s worth of medical research also showed strong evidence that pollution can help clog arteries, and a “small yet consistent” association between short-term exposure to air pollution and premature death.

“The foremost message for these high-risk groups remains that they should work to control their modifiable traditional risk factors — blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, smoking,” Brook said.

The American Heart Association said fine particulates could work in several ways, including by causing inflammation.

“It’s possible that certain very small particles, or chemicals that travel with them, may reach the circulation and cause direct harm,” Brook said.

“These responses can increase blood clotting and thrombosis, impair vascular function and blood flow, elevate blood pressure, and disrupt proper cardiac electrical activity which may ultimately provoke heart attacks, strokes, or even death.”

The group recommends that the elderly or anyone with heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes should pay attention to air pollution and air quality index warnings.

“People can limit their exposure as much as possible by decreasing their time outside when particle levels are high and reducing time spent in traffic — a common source of exposure in today’s world,” Brook said.

Is The H1N1 Flu Vaccine Going To Give Me Gulf War Syndrome?

H1N1 shot or not; flu or cold

by Pablo Paster, San Francisco on 11.16.09

No, this isn’t another article about mercury in vaccines, it is also not about vaccines causing autism, nor is it about vaccines not being vegan. This article is about an entirely different argument against vaccines that has surfaced in the international media and on conspiracy theory websites (which I won’t legitimize by providing a link, but Google will help you find them if you are curious).

What Is Squalene?

This article is about an immunological adjuvant called Squalene. What is an adjuvant? Well, it is an additive used in vaccines that stimulates your immune system and increases your immunological response to the vaccine. Squalene is a “natural organic compound” that comes from shark liver oil or vegetable oils. Squalene is even naturally occurring in humans and vital part of the synthesis of cholesterol and vitamin D. According to Anthrax vaccine expert Meryl Nass, M.D. “a novel feature of the two H1N1 vaccines being developed by companies Novartis and GlaxoSmithKline is the addition of squalene-containing adjuvants to boost immunogenicity and dramatically reduce the amount of viral antigen needed. This translates to much faster production of desired vaccine quantities.”

Why May Squalene Be Bad For Me?

Squalene has been shown in studies to anti-squalene antibodies that would presumably attack the body’s naturally occurring squalene. During a hearing of the House Subcommittee on National Security, Veterans Affairs, and International Relations Robert F. Garry, P.h.D. from the Tulane Medical School’s Department of Microbiology and Immunology said “our published research makes a compelling case that, first, anti-squalene antibodies exist, and second, that there is a link between the antibodies and Gulf War illness.” The reference section of the hearing transcript also states that “in the people studied, the presence of the antibodies correlated very closely with the presence of the symptoms of Gulf War illness both in personnel who had been deployed to the Persian Gulf theater and in personnel who had not been deployed there.”

Thinking About Avoiding The Vaccine?: Read On

In response to several studies attempting to associate squalene adjuvants with Gulf War Syndrome the World Health Organization (WHO) has made the following statements, which is also supported by published studies:

  • A few people have tried to link the health problems of Gulf War veterans to the possible presence of squalene in the vaccines these soldiers received.
  • One published report suggested that some veterans who received anthrax vaccines developed anti-squalene antibodies and these antibodies caused disabilities.
  • It is now known that squalene was not added to the vaccines administered to these veterans, and technical deficiencies in the report suggesting an association have been published.

As a firm believer in the precautionary principle I believe that the government should not allow the use any chemical without proper testing. Instead, it appears that this adjuvant is being allowed for the H1N1 pandemic because it allows the limited vaccine doses to immunize more people. In the end, you and your doctor know what’s best for you.

Historical evidence that electrification caused the 20th century epidemic

NOTE WORTHY UPDATE supporting your campaign to help people mitigate EMF danger from cellphones, electronics and wireless technology…

emr_logo Press Release announcing new Milham paper published in Medical Hypotheses:

Historical evidence that electrification caused the 20th century
epidemic of “diseases of civilization”

The EMR Policy Institute

The BioInitiative Report

A new study published by Samuel Milham, MD, MPH, in the September 2009 issue of the journal Medical Hypotheses reveals that electricity is responsible for most of the so called “diseases of civilization.” Author Milham is the 1997 recipient of the prestigious Ramazzini Award for his contribution to the epidemiology of occupational disease, with particular reference to carcinogenic risk from electromagnetic fields. Milham is a leading international expert in occupational hazards. He published as early as 1979 that electrical workers have increased mortality due to certain cancers.

Dr. Milham’s work is based on decades of government records of deaths and electrification that show electricity has been causing increased mortality from cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and suicide since the beginning of the 20th century.

The slow spread of residential electrification in the US in the first half of the 20th century from urban to rural areas resulted by 1940 in two large populations that allowed a detailed comparison of the spread of electricity with death rates. Electrification is clearly associated with increasing rates of disease and death. Urban death rates were as much as 66% higher than rural rates for cardiovascular diseases, malignant diseases, diabetes and suicide in 1940. Rural death rates were significantly correlated with level of residential electric service by state for most causes examined.

Dr. Milham’s publication suggests that the 20th Century epidemic of the so-called diseases of civilization including cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and suicide was caused by electrification not by lifestyle. He also concludes that a large proportion of these diseases may therefore be preventable.

Dr. Milham further comments that: “The explosive recent increase in radiofrequency radiation and high frequency voltage transients sources, from cell phones and towers, terrestrial antennas, WiFi and WiMax telecommunication systems, broadband internet over power lines, and personal electronic equipment may be leading to a new 21st Century epidemic much like the 20th Century electromagnetic field epidemic.” That this new epidemic of morbidity and mortality may be underway is of major concern to Dr. Milham.

The EMR Policy Institute applauds Dr. Milham’s work that brings attention to this emerging public health question. His new paper makes a major contribution towards a better understanding of the human biological effects from exposure to electromagnetic fields across the spectrum.

The man who is allergic to Wi-Fi

wireless dangers

wireless dangers

From “Independent IE”

Friday July 24 2009

A club DJ, Steve Miller, has revealed he has been forced into exile by a powerful allergy to Wi-Fi internet waves which leaves him feeling dizzy, sick and disorientated.

Mr Miller, better known by his stage name Afterlife, is unable to use trains, stay in hotels or visit his local high street because of his sensitivity to the “electrosmog” caused by wireless internet waves.

He is among around two pc of the population who suffer from Electromagnetic Hypersensetivity, while the number of people and businesses pumping out the Wi-Fi signal is rising.

Mr Miller told The Sun: “I feel like an exile on my own planet. It’s almost impossible to find somewhere without Wi-Fi nowadays.

“If I fancy a pint I have to travel three miles to the only pub in my area that doesn’t have it. I can’t just go to the shops because huge parts of the high street affect me.

“If I go somewhere, I can instantly sense the Wi-Fi and have to leg it.”

Mr Miller, who had a residency at the Ibiza nightclub Pacha before his allergy, said he has missed out on a large number of overseas gigs because all airports and most hotels have Wi-Fi.

The only place where he can escape the “electrosmog” is in his own home – a detached house with 18in thick granite walls in a village near Falmouth, Cornwall.

Mr Miller believes that the majority of headaches people get at work can be attributed to their office Wi-Fi connections.

“I’ve spoken to friends who work in offices who end up living on painkillers because of their daily headaches,” he said. “They tried turning off their transmitters and found their headaches stopped.”

Vatican Radio bows to pressure on electromagnetic radiation

Monday, 9 April, 2001, 21:09 GMT 22:09 UK
Vatican radio bows to pressure

The station broadcasts the pope’s speeches in some 40 languages

The Vatican, in an effort to stop Italy from cutting off electricity to its radio station following a row over electromagnetic radiation, says it will cut some of its transmissions after Easter.

The surprise decision was announced a day before Italy’s Environment Minister Willer Bordon was due to hold a news conference to announce measures against the station.

The minister has accused Vatican Radio of exceeding Italian laws on radiation and of being a health hazard.

Last month, Mr Bordon threatened to cut off all electricity to the radio’s transmission centre on Rome’s outskirts.

The antennas violate Italian law.

Residents have claimed that the radio’s forest of large antennae have resulted in a higher incidence of leukaemia in the area.

Vatican Radio, which broadcasts the Pope’s speeches and events to the world in some 40 languages, announced its decision on Monday hours after the latest tests ordered by the environment ministry confirmed that the transmissions violated Italian standards.

Shut down after Easter

The statement said the broadcaster would shut down its medium wave transmissions on the 1530 kHz band for seven hours a day beginning on 16 April, the day after Easter.

That waveband is currently used for 14 hours a day and so the shutdown would affect some 50% of broadcasts on that frequency, which is primarily used for broadcasts in Europe.

A Vatican Radio spokesman said broadcasts on short wave, which is beamed to other continents, and FM, which is used for Italy, would continue as normal.

The statement said it was “presumed” that the AM antennae, whose broadcasts are sent in horizontal waves, were the reason why the broadcaster exceeded Italian limits.

Minimising risk

The statement confirmed Vatican Radio’s willingness to seek a long-term solution on transmission levels that would “minimise the risk to the population”.

Like Vatican City itself, the transmission centre is on extraterritorial land and considered part of the sovereign Vatican state.

Last month, Mr Bordon said the National Agency for the Protection of the Environment had registered three times the legal limit for electromagnetic radiation during one evening broadcast.

Since Vatican Radio was set up 44 years ago, Italy has introduced the European Union’s toughest limits on such radiation, dubbed “electrosmog” by the Italian media.
