Although many counties are seeing the same new species of bird, appropriately named the mosquito, we all must be diligent about mitigating contraction of the west nile virus.

There are many ways to reduce the mosquito population around your own home but you cannot control your becoming dinner to these guys that are starving elsewhere you go.

Choose an over the counter protection with as few harmful toxic chemicals as possible or make up your own non-toxic concoction.  Many prefer Neem oil and I could name at least a dozen cultural options but will get right to what has worked for me for years.

Something I learned over a decade ago when living without screens in the West Indies.

  • inexpensive unscented lotion
  • if bottle is 8oz, use 7 drops each of cinnamon oil and clove oil.  If larger or smaller, adjust accordingly, you may increase clove oil by 3 drops but know the scent will strengthen as well.
  • Shake vigorously before each application.
  • These natural oils may burn your skin; test for sensitivity prior to applying to body and I found it safe for cheeks and neck as well

WARNING:  pure oils may burn your skin with direct contact, please mix as above before testing.

Remain vigilant and protect yourselves, your elders and your children.  BIC… CSea

Major progress in removing toxic chemicals from consumer products

Great news heard this morning on CBS.

Noting that Johnson & Johnson recognizes the toxic chemicals in their products and have stated they will remove them from all their products by 2015.

So relieved to see they have admitted it and will have toxic chemicals removed from Baby products by 2013 and the rest of their products by 2015.

We have tolerated (most likely without full knowledge or disclosure) these chemicals because of synthetics having a lower price tag.

In order for us to use non-toxic shampoo, soap, moisturizers etc, we have to up the ante and pay more for safety.

What is right with this picture?  What is wrong with this picture.

We call ourselves ‘mitigatetoxins’ on Twitter for a reason.

Joy to J&J now hoping the rest of the industry follows suit.

The Great Leadership Challenge

The Great Kindness Challenge Logo

by Jim Rohn

If you want to be a leader who attracts quality people, the key is to become a person of quality yourself. Leadership is the ability to attract someone to the gifts, skills, and opportunities you offer as an owner, as a manager, as a parent. What’s important in leadership is refining your skills. All great leaders keep working on themselves until they become effective. Here are some specifics:

Learn to be strong but not impolite. It is an extra step you must take to become a powerful, capable leader with a wide range of reach. Some people mistake rudeness for strength. It’s not even a good substitute.

Next, learn to be kind but not weak. We must not mistake weakness for kindness. Kindness isn’t weak. Kindness is a certain type of strength. We must be …

Giving Your Best or don’t give at all

Ask for help; it is ok

It is OK to ask for help

It’s the hand we clasp with an honest grasp

That gives a hearty thrill;

It’s the good we pour into others’ lives

That comes back our own to fill.

It’s the dregs we drain from another’s cup

That makes our own seem sweet;

And the hours we give to another’s need

That makes our life complete.

It’s the burdens we help another bear

That makes our own seem light.

It’s the anger seen for another’s feet

That shows us the path to right.

It’s the good we do each passing day ,

With a heart sincere and true ;

In giving the world your best

Its best will return to you.

____________

When I feel betrayed by someone, instead of sulking, clinging to my resentment and playing the role of victim, I am challenged to strengthen my soul through forgiveness.

By forgiving the person who hurt me, I strengthen my soul. . . . each time we are called upon to forgive, we nourish our souls and learn more about who we are and what we have to share in this world.

This is also an example of unconditional love.

14 Ways To Be A Great Startup CEO

14 Ways To Be A Great Startup CEO.

As quoted on OnStartups …

Everyone thinks that being a start-up CEO is a glamorous job or one that has to be a ton of fun. That’s what I now refer to as the “glamor brain” speaking aka the start-up life you hear about from the press. You know the press articles I’m talking about… the ones that talk about how easy it is to raise money, how many users the company is getting, and how great it is to be CEO. Very rarely do you hear about what a responsibility it is to be CEO and how it’s not for every founder that wants to be an entrepreneur. I’ve spent a lot of time recently thinking about what it takes to be a great Start-up CEO that is also a founder. Here are some of the traits I’ve found.

Be A Keeper Of The Company Vision

The CEO is the keeper of the company’s overall vision. I’m not talking about the vision for the next few months, but the larger road ahead. The CEO needs to be able to keep things on course for the current quarter to make sure that the large overarching vision of the company can be achieved.

To believe…

It is easy to believe in what we see

It is far more rewarding to believe in what you cannot see

…reposted from Positive Thoughts

To believe is to know that every day is a new beginning.
It is to trust that miracles happen, and dreams really do come true.
To believe is to see angels dancing among the clouds,
To know the wonder of a stardust sky and the wisdom of the man in the moon.
To believe is to know the value of a nurturing heart,
The innocence of a child’s eyes and the beauty of an aging hand, for it is through their teachings we learn to love.
To believe is to find the strength and courage that lies within us.
When it is time to pick up the pieces and begin again.
To believe is to know we are not alone,
That life is a gift and this is our time to cherish it.
To believe is to know that wonderful surprises are just waiting to happen,
And all our hopes and dreams are within reach.
If only we believe

Altitude Adjustment

soaring with the shark by Leigh

Here we are on the 14th of December, 2010.

As we close out the first Decade of the new Millennium; I give eternal gratitude for my flexible and optimistic attitude.

The altitude I’ve climbed to reach this inner peace is negligible to all of you readers yet is represents supernatural heights to me (my attitude soars). It does not matter to you; this is natural.  Turn it around on yourself and your attitude. How do the perceptions of others touch you?

Isn’t that what every day represents to each of you?  The heights you traveled with and without incident to collectively bring you to where you are today?

Your attitude is a firm roadmap. It predetermines if you stay on track or deviate off onto the dead end roads.

We each have the choice in attitude whether at your highest altitude in life or your lowest.  How we perceive reality is again, a choice.

10 people can read this article and there will be 9 presumptions between ‘great reminder to what is her agenda here?’  One reader will see the words and not presume anything at all; they will positively receive and benefit from the information.  That is just the way it is.

If you can patent ‘positive attitude guaranteed’ I’ll be the first to invest. How boring would that be anyway?

Choose wisely.  You are never alone.  Believing is what you see is easy; believing in the unseen is spectacular.

Big thanks to Vinnie Sanzone for suggesting the following video.  Vinnie gets it and wants to share with all.

Simon Sinek has a simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership all starting with a golden circle and the question “Why?” His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers — and as a counterpoint Tivo, which (until a recent court victory that tripled its stock price) appeared to be struggling.

Use This Re-Phrase And Increase Your Enrolling Power

Yes on stage at Lifestyles Pavilion in Columbu...

Image via Wikipedia

This morning it was quite easy to determine the daily message.  I didn’t even have to write it as Michael Oliver beat me to the punch.  Very well stated message below.  There is no I in TEAM.  Hence, if you could… holds so much more weight than … if I could …

There is a standard “closing phrase” in conventional selling that goes like this;

  • If I could show you a way to… (you fill in the rest)?

If you’ve used this, you’ve probably discovered it causes most people to back away and shut down on you.

The reason is that you’ve got the word “I” in there. It sounds self-serving and people sense a possible trap, so they put up their defenses, especially if it’s used early in a conversation. (Why is it that so many sales techniques are geared toward closing so early? It mostly leads to tears!)

However, REPHRASED and used as a Qualifying Question (not a closing question – there is a big difference), and used with the correct INTENT, it will produce outstanding results.

You do this by removing the word “I” and using neutral words, such as,

  • If there was a way you could… (get the money you’re looking for so that you can feel good about spending more time with your community) …do you ever look for opportunities to do that?
  • If you were able to… (reduce or eliminate that back pain so that you didn’t have to be dependent on others anymore).. by taking something else, is that what you’re looking for?

Can you feel the difference in energy or vibration of the conventional phrase and the Natural Selling phrase. If the new phrase feels better, then the person you’re talking with will also feel the same way?

Using the above as guidelines, create some phrases of your own. Say them a few times until you get the tone and feeling you want.

Your Intent

The success of the rephrasing has a lot to do with your intent. If you use it to close someone to achieve an objective, they are still likely to back away.

However, if you use it as a way to qualify whether they are serious about wanting to make a change, coming from a place of what I call Concerned Detachment, people will feel curious, as though you know something that they would like to know. They’ll respond with answers like;

  • Yes I would… depending on what it is
  • Why? Do you know of something?

Use it if you’re not doing so already. Observe how comfortable you are and how many more positive responses you get.

Billionaire to Bankrupt Every Day | SUCCESS Magazine | What Achievers Read.

Thank you Mel; such perfect timing to address HOW TO RECOVER FROM A SETBACK

How to Recover from a Setback

You can’t beat yourself up over this. There was no way to foresee it. Anyone could have made the same mistake. There are a dozen ways to say it, but no matter how you spin it, suffering a temporary setback is a momentum killer—if you let it. Here are three tips for getting back in the saddle after a deflating setback.

Step One: Pout or Punch. Do What You Have to Do to Feel Better.

Allow yourself to be an utter mess, SUCCESS columnist Mel Robbins says. “I gripe. I cry. I feel insecure. I punch the wall. I exercise. Then, it’s out of my system and it’s over,” she says.

Take the time you need to process what happened. Whether it’s life-altering like a layoff or an unforeseen obstacle in a big project, it’s okay. Really. Accepting the setback is an important step toward moving forward. It’s one more thing you can put in the “I know not to do that next time” column.

Step Two: You’ve Got to Move It (Move It)

Pardon the maddening tune, but the next step to recovery is taking action. Any action. Write down your proudest accomplishments and remember how you achieved them. Journaling your accomplishments will help you realize how powerful you really are. Recognizing your power, you can move forward confidently without second-guessing your every step.

Step Three: What’s the Takeaway?

From every misstep, there’s a lesson learned or a key takeaway that you can apply to your next project. So think on two levels—literally and figuratively. What’s the literal lesson from what happened and what larger, overarching principle can be taken from this experience? View your challenges positively. Easier said than done, but just thinking to yourself, “Okay, it can only get better now” is the kind of positive affirmation you need.
